A short clip from yesterday’s shoot. Covered “STILL” by Hillsong- NANAN and TOTO SORIOSO
Singing a song written for God.
3 weeks ago, my friend Bian asked me if I would be interested to sing/cover/shoot a church song. Right then and there, of course, I said Yes. I’ve been praying for this kind of opportunity ever since I started singing. Iba kasi talaga yung pakiramdam ‘pag kumakanta ka ng church song, a song written and composed for the One who gave you everything, including the talent that you have. IBA EH!
Then Bian told me I would do a collaboration with Toto Sorioso, a very talented man. He is the Grand Prize winner of the Filscap Song Writing Competition. Indeed, a great artist, composer and musician. Knowing these, dun palang I feel so blessed! Parang, “WOW! I’m such a beginner in this field tapos God gave me this kind of opportunity? To be working with these great people, to be singing a great song (STILL by HILLSONG, which is by the way, one of my favorite Christian Band), and most of all, to be singing a song written for HIM and be singing for HIM” WOW! pressure! haha! Pressure in a good and positive way naman. That same night, I got the lyrics and studied the song.
Days passed, and likemost musicians and artists, I felt really nervous. ‘Pag may gagawin ka talaga for Christ, expect the enemies to attack you eh. There came the bad weather, and there came my flu. Samahan pa ng kaba and questions like, “Will I do great with this? (knowing na, Toto and I will be practicing the song on the same day as our recording and shoot, which is by the way, my First Time to do haha) Am I even worthy to do this? To sing for Him?” pressure! But then I prayed and remembered a verse in the Bible,
“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” -Ephesians 2:10
Indeed, and in fact, who shall I fear, when I have a BIGGER God than all my fears and insecurities and doubts combined? AMEN!
Then yesterday came, the day of the shoot. I thought I would be going there on my own, but last minute, Josh texted me that their gig for Puma ended sooner as expected, so YEY! He can come with me to Ateneo. Thanks Josh! I really appreciate you :)
When we arrived at the studio, Blue Ketchup was there, recording their church song. I forgot the title. It was a tagalog song, a very nice song indeed.
While they were recording, Bian and Toto told me that I would be singing solo and Toto would just be playing the guitar for me. At first, kinakabahan nanaman ako LOL! ‘Cause what I was thinking and expecting was we will be singing together, but yeah, the show must go on :)
It’s ok, well, I think it went well! One thing that made our collaboration great was Toto Sorioso’s personality. He was really a nice guy and he was really easy to get along with. We both compromised with the arrangement of the song. Compromised on what I want and what he wants and what the song wants.
Indeed, I had a great time shooting this and I’m looking forward to be working with him again and the people behind the camera :) You are all so awesome! Thanks Bian, for inviting me! I appreciate it very much!
There’s no greater joy than to be performing and singing for the ONE who gave everything to you!
